The Story of Promethean Threads
It began when my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in high school, and our family struggled greatly not only with coming to terms with what this meant for her but also with the many practical challenges that only added to the stress. Grieving early, needing 24/7 care, and being forgotten by someone you love. We did not know how to navigate this situation, and it took years to access resources that could have been life-changing at the start.
Something had to be done, and in a time of my life and my family’s life where resilience was much needed, the story of Prometheus came to mind. The titan who brought fire to humankind, giving them hope, warmth, and protection at their darkest hour. He persevered through his punishment by standing up for that act wholeheartedly. This flame, this light is what inspired the emblem of Promethean Threads and is a symbol of this march forward, blazing a trail so that others may have a little more light and hope in their life.
What better to unite humankind than through art— a form of storytelling that is universal yet so best captures one's personal experience. Don our threads and change the fate of those with Alzheimer's and their families by joining a community and a movement towards change with the practical ease of doing what you do every morning— getting dressed.
